(Click HERE to read Chapter One.) So, this really only took me a few days to finish. By the time I posted it, I was fairly happy with the way it came out. I do have a few thoughts and critiques of my own I thought I'd share.
Tyken Nox
The name actually a combination of two different names I'm using in my own book I've been working on. I'll admit I also tried to combine their personalities, and I'm not sure if I truly succeeded. At this point, I view Tyken as someone who's spent years being alone by himself. He's never dated, never really sought friendship with anyone. In the first chapter, we read that he's still having a hard time dealing with the death of his parents, as well as being reluctant to seek out this guy he's obviously attracted to.
Quinn Alexander
He struck me as being one of the sadder characters in the Male of the Species book. There was some past hurt/pain that was sort of fleshed-out in the book, but not a whole lot. Out of everyone who I thought deserved someone, I thought Quinn deserved it the most. I sort of tailored Tyken's personality to fit what I thought Quinn would like in someone. We'll see if I do a good job about that.
Linking The Two Stories
I'd say I've done a mediocre job linking the two stories together. Certainly in the next chapter, I'll have to do much more of that since Tyken will be spending a lot of time at Quinn's mansion. I'm shooting for more character linking than too many plot elements, but mostly that's just for artistic reasons. I simply didn't like the way some of the plot elements carried through the book, so I'm reworking some of those.
Keeping Things Clean(er)
One of my top priorities in this fan fiction, is to keep the sexual aspects out as much as possible. That's not to say there won't be some here/there, but I don't want them to distract from the main story elements. My goal here is to make this less of a romance series, and more of a gay fantasy series, if that makes sense?
